If you have a big work trip or a fun vacation rapidly approaching, then it’s important to get prepared now, especially if you have Invisalign. While clear aligners are relatively hassle-free, there are a few things you should definitely do now to set yourself up for success later. After all, the last thing you want is to fall off-track with your treatment plan because of your trip! To help prevent that from happening, keep reading to learn five helpful tips for traveling with Invisalign.
Tip #1: Make Sure the Tap Water Is Safe Before You Go
Before leaving town, it’s essential that you make sure the tap water is safe to use beforehand. If it isn’t, then plan to stock up on bottled water when you arrive at your destination. That way, you can safely complete your oral hygiene routine, clean your aligners, and, of course, stay hydrated!
Tip #2: Double-Check That You’ve Packed Your Oral Hygiene Tools
A toothbrush, floss, and mouthwash are some dental care essentials that you should bring with you, always. That way, you don’t develop a cavity or two while away from home! Even if you’re sure you’ve packed everything you need, it’s always a good idea to double-check.
Tip #3: Bring Additional Aligners (If Needed)
If you need to switch to a new set of aligners during your trip, then make sure to pack those as well. This will ensure that you stay on-track with your treatment plan whether you plan to relax by the pool or explore the city you’re staying in.
Tip #4: Don’t Eat Anything Too Hard or Sticky
One of the best parts of traveling is getting to try the local cuisine. Don’t worry – you don’t have to refrain for the sake of your oral health. You should, however, exercise caution with extremely hard and sticky foods. These can quickly cause an attachment to break off, which has the potential to negatively affect your treatment timeline. So, if you can, choose softer foods.
Tip #5: Always Store Your Aligners in a Safe Place
In short, wrapping your aligners in a napkin is never a good idea. It’s one of the most common ways they get misplaced! Instead, keep the Invisalign storage case with you at all times. That way, you can easily (and safely) store your trays while you’re indulging in your meal.
The good news is that Invisalign won’t get in the way of you traveling for work or pleasure. Just make sure to keep the above tips in mind so you stay on track with your treatment plan while you’re away!
